Uganda: Farmer Picks PLE Papers

Kampala — A teacher, hired to distribute Primary Leaving Examination papers, profusely sweated when he recently lost one of the parcels.

Samuel Waiswa, appointed to Gwase Primary School, Bugaya sub-county in Kamuli disitrict, saw the worst of the day when the Social Studies parcel fell from the speeding motorbike carrier. Waiswa was racing to catch up with time.

Assisted by the teachers, a hunt was mounted, but to no avail as a resident, John Mugaya, who picked the parcel was relaxing with it in his garden.

After hours of searching, a good samaritan tipped them on where the parcel was.

Waiswa had to part with sh10,000 in order to get the parcel from Mugaya. Area councillor, Moses Mukama attributed the incident to corruption, saying officials use hired motor cycles to make cash differences instead of using cars.
