Angola: Ambassador to Italy Speaks of National Reconstruction

Rome — Angolan ambassador to Italy, Manuel Pedro Pacavira, said Friday in Rome that "Angola is currently going through deep process of national reconstruction".

The diplomat was speaking to members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Italy, as part of the celebrations of the 33rd anniversary of Angola's National Independence, November 11.

Manuel Pedro Pacavira underlined that with the peace achieved in 2002, "the future finally seems to be smiling to our young Nation".

He mentioned the ongoing rehabilitation and construction of roads, bridges and other communication systems, schools, hospitals and other facilities.

After inviting the Italian business people to invest in Angola, the ambassador reminded the audience that the Angolan Government intends to reduce the dependence of the country's economy on oil.

According to him, the Government has adopted a diversified economy policy, with a particular stress to farming, fishing and food industry, aiming at attaining food self-sufficiency and reduction of poverty.

Pacavira who considered tourism as a promising sector, also highlighted the success of the legislative election of September 5 held in Angola.
