A hailstorm at the weekend left a number of buildings destroyed on Chilubi Island.
Chilubi Island acting District Commissioner, Moses Mbewe, said the storm struck around 16:00 hours on Saturday.
Mr Mbewe said the storm, which lasted for over 30 minutes, left a number of buildings, both Government and private, destroyed.
"We experienced a storm which left a number of buildings destroyed. This storm lasted for over 30 minutes," Mr Mbewe said.
He said about three houses, including that of area member of Parliament, Obvious Chisala, had their roofs blown off.
Other affected buildings included the council's building office where the roof was blown off and the clinic where two sheets were ripped off.
Mr Mbewe said the education block, which was under construction,also had its roof blown off, besides the two buildings which house hammer mills.
Mr Mbewe said he was happy that no life was lost during the storm.
He also said that the Government was committed to repairing the buildings.
