Nigeria: Militants Abduct Shell Staff

Militants yesterday morning abducted a staff of Shell, Mr. Fidelis Akpoghiran in Port Harcourt.

Army and Joint Task Force spokesman in the state, Lieutenant Col Sagir Musa who confirmed the development to the Vanguard said he was kidnapped around Rumuodomanya.

He explained that shortly after they disappeared with him, the kidnappers demanded seven million Naira as ransom for him to be released. At press time he said security operatives were battling to secure the release of the hostage.

"Fidelis Akpoghiran, an SPDC staff in the ROCI team, was kidnapped at about 10am yesterday in Port Harcourt. Fidelis and his wife went to visit his brother's fiancee's parents in Rumuodomanya around Rumokoro.

While in the place exchanging greetings with inlaws about three armed young men broke into the house, tied up everybody, confirmed the identity of their victim and took him away. They claimed to be militants looking for money to buy ammunition and instantly demanded for seven million naira ransom.

The kidnappers drove away with Fidelis in his car. Toyota camry, 2008 model, ash colored with registration number EU 245 LSR. Security agencies have all been alerted to be on the watch out with the view to safely rescue the victim and apprehend the bandits."

Spokesman of Shell, Mr. Precious Okolubo could not be reached for comment on the issue even when his phone rang severally.
