Angola: Minister Calls for Equipping of Local State Organs

Namibe — Angolan Territory Administration minister, Virgílio de Fontes Pereira on Thursday announced, in south-western Namibe province, that his sector's action in the year 2009 will be focussed on the institutional equipment, with view to implement the tasks contained in the government's annual plan.

Fonte Pereira, who was addressing the opening session of the Territory Administration Ministry (MAT)'s Superior Council, noted that the implementation of the government plan depends on the macroeconomic stability and modernisation of local State administration organs.

According to him, the sector he leads will pledge its commitment to the equipping of administrative organs and to the strengthening of democracy, in order to encourage the participation of citizens in political tasks being carried out by the State in the communities.

The minister also recalled the combat to hunger and the eradication of poverty as one of the immediate tasks included in the governance programme presented to the society by the ruling MPLA party during the electoral campaign.

The event, set to end this Friday, is gathering governors from the country's 18 provinces, deputy ministers of Territory Administration, representatives of the Ministries of Culture and Planning, as well as senior officials of the office of the Prime Minister, António Paulo Kassoma.
