Angola: Federation's Outgoing Chairperson on Leading Sport

Luanda — The outgoing chairperson of the Angolan Basketball Federation (FAB), Gustavo da Conceição, Friday here reaffirmed his commitment to continue working towards expanding and developing the sport nationwide, in spite of his new duties as MP to the National Assembly.

Speaking to ANGOP, the head chief of the Angolan Olympic Committee (COA) guaranteed that his re-candidacy to the second mandate at FAB, for the 2008/2012 quadrennial, responds to the collective pressure of basketball agents to continue with an ambitious and positive programme.

"Although I now a parliamentarian, after a conversation and advices from various people, including from my political party, I decided to accept the request of basketball lovers to continue giving my contribution, in a direct way, to the destinies of this sport", he said.

According to the official, who is also the secretary general of African Olympic Committees (ACNOA), who is expected to have most part of his previous federation team for the next mandate, priority lies on, among others, the training of staff, and financial aid to provincial associations, commitment to school, military and disability basketball.

Concerning the electoral process, set for next December 06, the single list competing to the elections at FAB, led by Gustavo da Conceição, was already approved by the electoral commission, which is chaired by Jaime Guimarães.
