Arusha — The District Commissioner (DC) for Arusha, Evance Balama has expressed concern over lack or little medical attention to sportsmen and women once they are injured. He attributed the situation to the shortage of sports medical experts.

Balama who was opening a sports medicine seminar at the Golden Rose hotel Arusha asked the Ministry of Culture and Sports through

the National Sports Council to ensure implementation of the national policy on prompt first aid and medical care to sports men and women.

Speaking at the seminar, the Deputy Director of Sports Development in the Ministry, Ms Mataji Yassoda said the seminar aimed at giving appropriate care awareness to sports doctors and orthopaedicians from all regions.

She said the same kind of seminar had already been held in Dar es Salaam where some 60 experts had participated.

The Arusha seminar drew 60 participants from Zanzibar, Kagera, Mara, Rukwa, Arusha, Lindi and Dodoma under facilitators, Dr. Antony Ngome of the Sports and Culture ministry and a tutor from Germany, Dr. Daniel Wegner.

The seminar has been sponsored by the sports project coordinator in the ministry, Hans Peter Thumu from the Germany Embassy.
