Lagos — At a press conference recently in Lagos, the working committee of NAIJAZZ - the Nigerian International Jazz festival unveiled its Collaborators and programme for the event.
The collaborators include; FTAN (Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria- Lagos State Chapter), The Nigeria Jazz Club and Infogem Ltd. The one week event includes; a partners presentations forum, the festival command performance, a Naija-Art exhibition, instrumentalists talent hunt, executive boat cruise, music seminar, variety night with fashion/comedy show and two nights of musical performances in Abuja and Lagos. The rationale given for such a robust programme by the organizers is to give an opportunity to everyone. The December date is properly situated at the year end holiday season and affords a good number of Nigerians both at home and in Diaspora an opportunity for robust participation.
The secretary of the Federation of Tourism Association of Nigeria - Lagos State Chapter, Mr. Bola Nubi one of collaborators in his address said "NAIJAZZ encourages the home coming of Nigerian Jazz artistes of international repute and fuses them with our reputable Nigerian based Jazz artistes and as one of the set Goals of FTAN, we present and represent such initiatives to the Government.
It should be noted that this sort of tourism is particularly important at the initial stage and if managed well, it can bring forth such grand music tourism festivals such as Glastonbury Festival in Somerset, United Kingdom or the New Orleans Jazz festival in the United States. FTAN sees NAIJAZZ as the celebration people, cultures, lifestyle and more importantly music".
Mr. Ben Ufeli, founder and president of the Nigeria Jazz Club said his organizations involvement in NAIJAZZ was to continue to encourage the crop of musicians who played musical instruments in Nigeria not to give up. He said "there's jazz in all forms of music-anytime you play instruments in a strong way with that freedom you are playing Jazz".
Official Marketers of Naijazz Infogem Ltd through their CEO Mr. Ayo Olumoko said his company was pleased to be part of a project that would promote positives about Nigeria. He said no stone is being left unturned in the quest to ensure that a successful festival is being presented to Nigerians.
