Nigeria: PTDF Okays $10 Million to Train 2,569 Engineers

15 November 2008

Lagos — The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has set aside $10 million (about N1.17 billion) for the training of 2,569 engineers.

Head of PTDF Content Department, Mr Usman Hindara, said in Abuja, that 1,569 of the engineers had already been trained on process engineering design and soft wares.

"The training started in March 2007 and would be completed early next year," he said, adding that the engineers were being trained for employment in the oil and gas industry.

Similarly, the Executive Secretary of PTDF, Alhaji Kabir Mohammed has said the training was aimed at addressing the shortage of skilled manpower in the industry.

Mohammed disclosed this in an address at the passing out ceremony of 40 beneficiaries of the training programme in Abuja.

He said 20 engineers, who were trained simultaneously in Port Harcourt, had also passed out.

"The focus of PTDF is to achieve world class human resource standard as well as the subsequent provision of quality goods and services in the oil and gas industry," he said.

Mohammed also said the training was aimed at achieving government's target of increasing the local content level in the industry as enunciated in the Nigerian content policy.
