Nigeria: FG Approves N7.2 Billion to Fight HIV/Aids

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the sum of N7.2 billion to fight the HIV/AIDS in the country.

The declaration was made known by Dr. Nasidi who represented the Minister of Health at a four-day meeting of the West African College of Physicians at Abuja.

Nasidi in his address stated that the Ministry of Health from inception had given the College full support, politically and financially.

He also disclosed that the government had increased the funding of the College in order to make it more efficient and result oriented.

According to him, it is time for the country to re-define her strategy and take stock of what is available at its disposal.

He further said that the Federal Government had initiated new strategies on immunisation to be launched soon.

Speaking on Millennium Development Goals, Obeta Uchejoso of Department of Chemical Pathology, Jos University Teaching Hospital stated that findings had revealed that voluntary Blood Donation would cause child mortality rate reduction, improvement of maternal health and combating of Transfusion Transmissible Infections such as HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and Syphilis.

She said that Blood safety is integral to the WHO HIV/Aids plan to accelerate the prevention of HIV infection and to the achievement of Millennium Development Goals.
