The Liberia Traditional Wrestlers are expected to travel to Lome, Togo to participate in a six-day festival organized by that African State.
The tournament under the banner 'The third World Festival Of Traditional wrestlers' is expected to run from the 18-23 of November with teams from other African countries expected to partake.
Speaking to newsmen at one of their training sections, the head coach of Liberia's traditional wrestlers, Mr. Charles George Gardea said that the team has been fully involved with intense training ahead of the challenge.
He also noted that considering the importance attached to the tournament, they have become more committed to their regular training so as to challenge for the crown that has been set aside for the winner of the tournament.
Coach Gardea said that at least fifteen athletes have been selected to partake in the training for the upcoming Benin competition of which Liberia has been rated high amongst invited countries.
According to him, a prepared budget in the tone of US$40,000 has been submitted to the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS) so as to assist teams to travel to that African state.
He said Liberia was rated very high in Dakar, Senegal when they lastly participated in similar competition.
On the issue of the fitness of the athletes, Coach Gardea claimed that team is very fit considering the number of training sections they have conducted and are still conducting.
