Dutse — An intending female pilgrim from Jigawa State was reported dead after collapsing during a screening exercise at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), a few hours to their flight to Saudi Arabia.

The intending pilgrim, whose name was given as Asabe Garba Kalacci, from Hadejia local government, with passport No.61032, was rushed to the hospital by the official of the State pilgrim's Welfare Board, when she suddenly collapsed. She died the following day.

While confirming the death, the Executive Secretary of the State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Suleiman Usman, said the woman was sighted by the board medical team with signs of illness when she was waiting to be screened to board the flight, and that before they could bring her out from the line she had fainted.

He explained that, after she fainted, the medical team rushed her to the hospital's intensive care unit but unfortunately she died.

"Though the nature of her illness was not clarified to us, according to the medical report we received from the hospital, the woman had a long-standing health problem".

Alhaji Suleiman said the board had already informed the family of the deceased, and that the board on behalf of the governor had sent a condolence massage to the family.

The governor prayed Almighty Allah to grant her the reward of hajji as she intended to perform and also rest her soul in paradise.

He also prayed God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss.

It was observed that the first batch of Jigawa State pilgrims to which the deceased belonged, were left stranded for over three days at the Aminu Kano Airport, before they were airlifted by Kabo Air Line last Sunday, instead of Meridian Air Line as earlier scheduled.
