Yola — The World Bank (WB) has given a pass mark to the Adamawa State Fadama Development Office (FDC) in the micro-economic projects that had direct bearing on the socio-economic activities of the beneficiaries at the grassroots.
To this end, the World Bank has also promised to support the state in the take-off and implementation so as to enable more communities benefit.
Speaking during an inspection tour of the projects in Adamawa State, the representative of the World Bank, Dr. Abimbola Adubi, explained that he was particularly impressed with the spread, disbursement and the implementation of Fadama II programmes in critical socio-economic areas that were dear to the people.
In Njoboliyo village, of Yola south local government area, where a herd of "artificially inseminated calves" were inspected, he expressed satisfaction with the participation of the people and their commitment to developing their economy through animal farming and re-production.
He said he was happy with the enthusiasm of Fadama user groups (FUGS) in places where he visited, and expressed confidence in the ability of the state to sustain the third phase of Fadama, and commended the government for its commitment and prompt release of the counterpart funds for the programme.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Tijjani Marksha, said the state government was committed to boosting agriculture by initiating programmes that would enhance food production and food security, adding that the Fadama II would boost government efforts for the benefit of the people.
In his remark, the state Project Co-ordinator (SPC), Dr. Ahmed Garba, thanked the World Bank representative for the visit and encouragement, assuring that his office would continue to sustain the tempo, which he said was made possible by the commitment of the state government in its timely release of its counterpart funds.
He used the forum to commend Governor Murtala H. Nyako for making agriculture a major priority of his administration which he said would go a long way to enhancing the socio-economic wellbeing of the people.
