South Africa: Lions Begin Arriving in SA

17 November 2008

Members of Cameroon's Indomitable Lions have begun arriving in South Africa for Wednesday's Mandela Cup Challenge.

Bafana Bafana media officer Sifiso Cele said: "Some of their players are already in the country and I am sure by tomorrow they will have their full team."

Meanwhile, Bafana manager Sipho Nkumane told KickOff.com that Safa is still waiting for a medical certificate from Everton clarifying the reported injury to midfielder Steven Pienaar.

"Everton have notified us about the injury to Pienaar but as normal procedure they must send us his medical certificate to confirm his injury," Nkumane says.

Nkumane confirmed that all the locally-based players have reported for camp and that a few overseas players are expected to arrive in the country tonight and tomorrow morning.

"The squad has left Johannesburg for Rustenburg with all the local players this afternoon. We expect the rest of the overseas-based players to arrive in the country tonight and tomorrow.

"Benni McCarthy, Elrio van Heerden and Macbeth Sibaya have already indicated that will be arriving in the camp tomorrow.

"So far things are looking good at the camp and the players look determined to do the country proud against Cameroon."

Bafana are set a tough task, as they will meet the full strength Indomitable Lions who are also motivated by the current form of Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o in the Spanish La Liga.
