THE Ooni of Ife and the Chairman Osun State Council of Traditional Rulers, Oba Okunade Sijuwade has lamented the poor state of the Federal roads across the country and tasked members of the National Assembly to ensure that adequate money is voted for the repairs of the roads.
Speaking weekend at this years Ife Day Ile ife and the launching of N500M for the completion of three of its factories including an ultramodern Water and Juice Factory being facilitated by the
community, the monarch regretted the state of Nigerian roads and urged the federal government to urgently do some thing about it.
The traditional ruler though present but spoke through the Ajagbusi of Iloko Oba Oladele Olashore expressed his displeasure at the poor state of the roads which according to him has affected both social and economic development of the people of Nigeria.
He urged members of the National Assembly to ensure that money voted for the repairs and constructions of roads across the country are spent accordingly to lessen the burden of masses across the country.
Osun state governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola who was represented at the ceremony by the Secretary to the state government Alh Fatai Akinbade commended the initiative of Ife community over the years by planning Ife Day to raise funds to industrialize and create means of employment for the people saying that government alone could not meet the needs of the people.
He urged the people of Ife community to show great passion towards the development of the community so as to complement the efforts of the government to make lifemeaningful to all.
The chairman of the ceremony Mr Wale Babalakin SAN in his address commended the leadership roles of Oba Sijuwade describing him as an asset to the entire world adding that it was a rare privilege to stand before him on invitation.
The chief launcher, Governor of Abia state represented by his deputy Chief Chris Akuma said he has never been disappointed by the leadership advice he has received from the Ooni of Ife and the homage he has been paying.
He urged the federal government to encourage explorations of cocoa and other mineral resources such that the nation could also depend on them for survival saying that the present situation whereby the nation continue to survive on proceeds from oil and gas alone should be discouraged.
Senator Iyiola Omisore, Chairman Appropriation Committee, one of the awardees said no matter the performance of the government, the community owes it a duty to contribute with developmental efforts as this so as to make life more meaningful to the residents.
He commended the efforts of the leadership of this years Ife Day Planning committee to award their own children saying that there is no honour that is more appreciated and satisfying than that of ones community.
