Nigeria: Govt Alone Cannot Eradicate Drug Trafficking - Yuguda

Bauchi — Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State has called for concerted efforts among stakeholders to eradicate drug trafficking, addiction and abuse in Nigeria "that have been ravaging our society like wild fire".

Malam Yuguda, who played host to the chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Alhaji Adamu Giade, said the problems of drug trafficking, addiction and abuse were serious ones that needed everybody's contribution to address.

Represented by his deputy, Alhaji Garba Muhammad Gadi, the governor lamented that youths were the most affected by the menace of drugs, and called on governments at all levels to mobilise their people to support the fight against it.

Yuguda enjoined local governments and traditional leaders to pay more attention to those who peddled drugs and ensure that they are brought to book before they cause further damage to the society, saying drug reduction was everybody's business.

One of the measures the administration evolved to address the problems emanating from drug abuse, the governor said, was the establishment of the agency for rehabilitation and development of women and youths which had, so far, rehabilitated and engaged over 30,000 youths and women through skills acquisition and job creation.

The chairman of the NDLEA commended the Bauchi State government for the assistance it has been rendering to the agency's office in the state.
