Yenagoa — Men of the Joint Military Task Force code-named Operation Restore Hope yesterday thwarted an attempt by armed militias to overrun its formation in the Bayelsa State capital, killing two in a gun battle that ensued.

This came, few hours before a dramatic incident in which a 33 years old man, identified as Chucy Fiebebebogha, cut off his genitals over an alleged inability to contend with growing responsibilities facing him including the inability to meet up the demand of anti-natal and post natal requirement of his pregnant wife.

The suspected militia group, security sources informed Leadership, had at the early hours of Saturday launched a sporadic attack at the formation of the Joint Military Task Force at the Yenagoa end of the capital city.

Armed with dangerous weapons, such as cudgel and guns, the militia men engaged the soldiers in a shoot out that lasted for several hours.

The situation forced people in the neighborhood to remain indoors for fear of the stray bullet.

As at the time of filing this report, the reason for the attack is yet to be made known but the out-going Commander of the JTF in the state Lt. Col. Chris Musa, while confirming the incident to our correspondent, said that two of the members involved in the heinous act were shot dead.

He disclosed that there was no casualty on their part, adding that the Military authority had commenced investigation, hoping that, soonest, the mystery surrounding the attack would be made manifest.

Lt. Col. Musa said it was disheartening that while governments at various tiers were looking for means to proffer lasting solution to the crisis in the region; some people are still hiding under the darkness to perpetrate evil.
