Nigeria: Falcons Force Black Queens to a Draw

Abuja — Nigeria's Super Falcons yesterday salvaged their pride as a force to be reckoned with in African women football after a last- minute equaliser from Ifeanyi Chiejine cancelled the Ghanaians' early lead in the dying minutes of the game.

The scoreline ensured the defending champions avoid a defeat to arch rival Black Queens of Ghana in their group opening match of the ongoing 6th African women championship (AWC) in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

The Black Queens opened scoring in the first half of the encounter and held on to their lead before the break.

After the break, the five- time champions came out strongly and took control of the game in all departments but failed to take their chances early before Ifeanyi Chiejine took advantage of their opponent's defensive error to slot an equaliser to keep their unbeaten record on the continent intact. Falcons' next match is against Tunisia.
