Kampala — FORMER national champion Ronald Ssebuguzi posted the quickest time over two runs to emerge the inaugural winner of the Festino Marshals sprint in Mukono on Sunday.

Ssebuguzi, in a red Mitsubishi Evo4, had a flawless display on the tricky newly constructed double track, clocking a total time of 8.47 minutes to claim victory.

In the first run, Ssebuguzi raced Omar Mayanja (Mitsubishi Evo4) who rolled his car on a tight corner. Mayanja was not injured.

In the second run, Ssebuguzi took on national champion Ahmed Asharaf, beating him and setting the fastest time of 4.12 minutes on the 6.8km track. Ssebuguzi said he was confident he would break the record next season.

"It feels great winning on a new and very challenging track. I look forward to many battles here with other top drivers," Ssebuguzi said.

John Mpiima (Subaru), making a first appearance, shocked the big field when he clocked 9.10 minutes to snatch second position.

Mayanja and Patrick Oling rolled their cars while Issa Nyanzi's old Subaru Legacy was dogged by mechanical problems in the first run.
