Kampala — THE glamour of silk was displayed by the Indian community, with some glittering under the dim lit room.
This was during the Indian Women Association (IWA) fashion gala at Golf Course Hotel last week.
The models showcased the different fashions of the saris while the male models displayed various tight Indian male dresses.
The occasion themed "elements show" was presided over by the Gender state minister, Rukia Isanga and in attendance were the wife of the Indian High Commissioner, Shrivastar and the chairperson IWA, Asha Keswam. The minister commended the fraternal traditional relations between the two sister countries.
"We do not need to have surplus wealth to support the less fortunate. The implements you have donated to the various group to improve their livelihood, the hostels you constructed for our daughters in Kiruhura district are good gestures," Isanga noted.
She also commended the Indian community for supporting the heart patients' treatment in India, assistance to flood victims in Teso and northern Uganda.
"This occasion provides a unique opportunity for us to share experiences. It's imperative then, that we enrich ourselves as women,"Isanga said.
