Uganda: Masaka Gets 930 Million Poverty Funds

Kampala — MASAKA district has received sh930m for the implementation of the Prosperity-for-All programme.

The funds were channelled through Masaka Micro Finance, Teachers' Cooperative Savings and Credit Society (SACCOs), Lwengo, Mbirizi, Bukoto South, Budukiro, Kiwangala, Kitoro and Masaka Elders SACCOs.

The commissioner of the micro-finance ministry, Kayondho Katunguku, said the Government had earmarked sh4b to be distributed in the 23 sub-counties.

Kayondho was handing over sh50m allocated to Masaka District Elders SACCO on Thursday.

He said the southern region districts of Kalangala, Rakai, Ssembabule, Lyantonde and Masaka had received a total of sh1.8b.

The Government, Kayondho added, had allocated sh11b for the Bona bagaggawale programme.

The Masaka resident district commissioner, Bamusedde Bwambale, warned the ministry against quacks that extort money.

"We receive complaints that people extort money from the public using documents from the Ministry of Micro Finance," he said.

Bwambale added that fake micro-finance projects had been used to con Masaka residents.
