WITH the popping of camera flashes the Republikein's Estelle de Bruyn was on Friday night crowned the 2007 Journalist of the Year in the print category at the Misa Namibia Media Awards.

The broadcast Journalist of the Year title went to the NBC's Jacqueline Hindjou.

The night belonged to journalists from the Democratic Media Holdings (DMH) stable of newspapers, with Allgemeine Zeitung's Dirk Heinrich scooping the awards in all the photographic categories.

The night also saw the posthumous honouring of the late Hannes Smith when he was awarded the 2008 Freedom of Expression award, which was received on behalf of the Smith family by Phil ya Nangoloh, Director of the National Society for Human Rights (NSHR).

The winners in the different categories were:

BROADCASTING Best Reporter General News: Jacqueline Hindjou; Political Feature Award: Wynand Diergaardt; Health/HIV-AIDS: Hertha Muukua PRINT Political Journalism Award: Estelle de Bruyn; Investigative Journalism Award: John Grobler; General News Award: Tangeni Amupadi; Best Community Reporter: Des Erasmus; Tourism/Environmental Journalism Award: Jo-Mare Duddy; Business/Finance Journalism Award: Tangeni Amupadhi; Health / HIV-AIDS: Catherine L Sasman; Feature Writer Journalism Award: Ronelle Rademeyer; Economics Journalism Award: Robin Sherbourne.
