18 November 2008

SPECIAL Olympics Namibia is celebrating its 10th anniversary with the Fifa Special Olympics Development Project Football Week.

Two hundred athletes from across the country are taking part.

The festivities kicked off yesterday with a Law Enforcement Torch Run where members of the Windhoek Fire Brigade and the City Police participated together with the special athletes.

On Thursday a birthday cake will be cut at the Dagbreek School and on Friday a number of football competitions will be held at the Ramblers Sport Club.

These will include united exhibition matches with the Special Athletes, the Brave Warriors and law-enforcement officers.

On Saturday a fun day for all will bring the festivities to an end.

The day will be hosted by the Windhoek International School and will include Healthy Athlete Screenings where all the special athletes will have ear, eye, dental and general health checkups by doctors participating in the programme.
