A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, has struck-out the suit by former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, who is challenging his demotion from the rank of an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) to a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).

The suit was truck-out, sequel to an earlier letter of discontinuance, by Ribadu, following another suit he instituted at the Abuja Division of the court on the same subject matter.

Ribadu, it would be recalled had dragged the Federal Government before the court, challenging his recent demotion. Defendants in the suit are the Police Service Commission, the Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General of Police.

He had last week, filed a fresh motion before Abuja Division of the court, challenging the query served on him by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Mike Okiro.

Ribadu in the fresh motion, had averred that after he had served the processes on the defendants, the 2nd defendant (IGP) issued to him a letter dated October 31, 2008 querying his decision to institute the action without his prior approval and that of the 3rd defendant (AGF), who demanded for his explanation in writing.

According to him, the police authorities gave him 48 hours to answer the query after which it was revealed to him that he would likely be punished for his action.

Ribadu had averred in the affidavit in support of the motion, that his life was at risk. According to his averment, "I am very apprehensive because the work I did as Chairman of the EFCC made me very bitter enemies and indeed there have been attempts on my life in the past.
