Former Commissioner for sports in Edo State, Brown Ebewele, is convinced that the foundation he laid for sports will survive under the administration of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as governor of the state.
Ebewele, fondly called the "Jujuman", said yesterday that after listening to the new governor he was convinced that sports in Edo State was in for a good time.
"I am happy that the new governor is talking as a true son of the soil who has the genuine interest of Edo State at heart.
"After listening to him, I am no longer scared that the change of government will distort the plan to position Edo as the number one in sports in the country. In fact, sports will have a good time in the new dispensation", he said.
Ebewele is banking on the fact that the new governor is determined to work with technocrats in his administration.
"Once a technocrat comes on board, he will certainly see issues from their true perspectives and that is exactly the foundation I tried to lay as a commissioner", Jujuman said.
Brown pursued human capacity building and infrastructural development as his driving force when he was commissioner and he was able to position the state as the one to beat in the forthcoming National sports Festival.
Ebewele had ordered a contingent of 1,250 athletes and officials to camp in the hope of contesting every event at the festival.
"There is no state in the country that will call as many athletes to camp as we have done. So we will be the one to beat at the games", he told the athletes when the camp opened. The former commissioner for sports was also on the verge of replacing the athletes who left the state for greener pastures.
