Tunis — Transport Ministers of Western Mediterranean countries (GTMO 5+5), gathering in Tunisia have decided at the close of their conference, to work towards simplifying and harmonizing the legislation governing international transportation.
Tunisia is the current chairman of the group of Ministers.
In their final communiqué the GTMO 5+5 have called for the setting up of Mediterranean sea routes based on a reliable network of ports infrastructure , as well as the realisation of strategic Maghrebi routes of a multimodal network that includes harbors, railways and airports.
They also called for setting up a financial 'maritime security tax", to benefit countries bordering the Mediterranean.
During a press conference held following the meeting, the Tunisian Minister of transport, Mr Abderrahim Zouari, said that cooperation between Maghrebi countries, insofar as maritime highways and the trans- Maghrebi highway are concerned, were "well advanced".
The Secretary General of the Union for the Arab Maghreb (UMA), took part in the meeting.
