Lagos — The two Nigerian sides to the FIBA Africa Champions Qualifiers which took place inside the Sports Hall of the National Stadium in Surulere Lagos throughout last week gave such a scintillating account of themselves that by the time the group stage of the tournament had ended, they had secured their ticket to the final tournament expected to take place in Tunisia.

Yesterday night when the two took the stage for the final match, it was only a kind of image and classification match to decide who would lead the qualifiers of the zone to the final tournament in Tunisia.

The Nigeria champions, Kano Pillars, earlier on Sunday night, displayed their champions stuff by being the first to book a place in the final.

The Nigeria representative defeated Swallows basketball club of Togo by 71-47 points with the Togolese side showing some promises early in the third quarter holding the Kano-based Nigeria Pillars to their half of the court before crumbling in the last quarter to the superior fire-power of the Nigerian.

Pillars won in the quarters by 21-13, 15-14, 12-10 and 23-10 for a cumulative score-line of 71-47 points. Coach Sanni Ahmed says his side will not let the country down at the final round of the championship in Tunisia.
