Fund appropriated for the development of HIV/AIDS programmes in the nation's primary schools have not been released yet by the federal government, says the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Dr Ahmed Modibbo Mohammed.
He made the disclosure last weekend when the House Committee on Education led by its Chairman, Honorable Faruk Lawan paid the commission a visit.
He said the N4.3 billion approved for the commission for disbursement for the year 2008 has not been released yet by the Ministry of Finance.
"We have not receive the N4.3billion appropriated for the HIV/AIDS programmes from the Ministry of Finance but we are still trying to access this money so that we can distribute same to the states for the effective implementation of the programme," he said.
Speaking on behalf of the committee members, Lawal said the committee was in the commission to familiarize itself with the level of work of the commission.
He added that the committee will study the report made available to it by the commission with a view of correcting imbalances observed in the distribution of resources.
