THE contractor handling Buguma Ido Abalama Degema Abonnema road/bridge project in Rivers State have been given two weeks to resume work or face severe sanction.
Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission, Mr. Timi Alaibe handed down the order at the palace of the Amanyanabo of Kalabari in Buguma.
He expressed displeasure with what he termed the unserious attitude of the contractor handling the project.
He continued that if the contractor failed to respond positively to the order the commission would have no other option than to apply sanction and as well recovered every kobo paid to the contractor as mobilization fee.
"No contractor can run with our money, I assure you we will go after the Banks that guarantee the Banks and we will certainly get them," Alaibe said.
The scope of the project which was awarded January this year he said involves 18.3km road with shoulders and construction of One Number concrete box curvet single cell.
In the meantime, the NDDC boss has assured early completion of the work on the Buguma shore protection.
According to him, one thousand and seventy eight sheet piles out of the one thousand six hundred required for the job is ready for piling.
"I am happy they are using vibro hammer, job is going on well, so far they have piled 480 sheet piles"
He disclosed that the 3.45km shore protection involves 1km concrete sheet pile with the rest stretch as embankment.
He further appealed to institutions and agencies in the region to assist with provision of shore protection in riverine communities in the region as a way to rescue them from flood and erosion related problems.
Meanwhile, the Amanyanabo of Kalabari, King (Professor) T.G.T Princewill has promised an atmosphere of calm for contractors working in kalabari areas.
While thanking the NDDC for its show of concern to Kalabari people with its quick response to call for development in the area he said as he would ensure contractors enjoy conducive atmosphere for work in the area
