Angola: Justice Ministry Threatens to Punish Arbitrary Legal Cost Charges

Luanda — The Angolan Justice Ministry will make accountable and punish all those that charge arbitrarily the legal costs in courts, in face of the growing complaints from citizens.

This was announced last Monday, in Luanda, by the deputy minister of Justice, João Alves Monteiro, at a meeting with MPs of the National Assembly's commission for constitutional, juridical and regulation issues, in the ambit of the debate in specialty of the government's National Plan and General Budget for 2009.

According to the deputy minister, the Justice Ministry has been getting complaints according to which some courts have been charging very high and unequal legal costs.

"The legal costs table is the same in the whole country", he said, adding that he does not understand why there have been unequal charges, since several seminars have been held throughout the country, attended by court workers, in which it is explained the procedure in terms of legal costs.

João Alves AntÃ'nio also seized the occasion to announce that the civil and administrative lawsuits hall of the Luanda Provincial Court will soon undergo rehabilitation works.
