Nigeria: NFF Denies Lulu, Uchegbulam Rift

10 November 2008

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has declared that there is no trouble within its ranks, either between the federation's President Sani Lulu Abdullahi and his immediate Vice President, Amanze Uchegbulam, or anywhere within.

Federation spokesman Ademola Olajire said a report in a national sports paper that the duo of Lulu and Uchegbulam are at loggerheads, is most ridiculous.

"To start with, the NFF President did not visit the former Governor of Abia State, Dr Orji Kalu in recent months, and there was surely no forum where Dr Kalu had the opportunity of telling Alhaji Lulu Abdullahi about the 'scheming' by his Board Members to unseat him.

"Alhaji Lulu Abdullahi and Mr Uchegbulam, as well as other Members of the Executive Committee are working together in harmony towards lifting Nigeria football to where they believe it should be in the international sphere. There is no time for bickering.

"These kind of stories are diversionary and mischievous. The peaceful working relationship among Members of the NFF Executive and Management Staff is excellent. Everyone is working towards the same goal and vision, at all times, and will not be affected by the antics of people who concoct tales that do not exist.

"By all means, the NFF is fully aware of its duties, obligations and responsibilities to Nigerians and will not allow bias, avarice or inordinate personal interests to jeopardize this and distract it from its mission.

"At the end of the day, the talk of ambition is rather too early, with two more years still left of the tenure of the present leadership that has been quite focused and highly successful".
