Sokoto — Sokoto State Government has sign a contract agreement for the establishment of an Independent Power Plant (IPP) with a United States (US) based energy company, Vulcan Capital Energy at the cost of N3.8 billion.
The contract that is expected to be completed in six months will be executed through the company's subsidiary partner, Vulcan Elvaton Limited.
Signing the contract documents on behalf of the state government, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Sahabi Gada said the plant would begin operation by May 2009.
According to him, the idea behind the establishment of an independent power generation plant was due to the perennial inadequacy of electricity in the country.
The SSG stated that the state has the full desire to effectively and efficiently stabilise solid foundation for industrialisation hence the project. "We cannot accomplish that without adequate power supply to serve the purpose", he explained.
According to Gada, the power project if completed, would generate 30 mega watts while noting that the state required 60 megawatts, pointing out that the PHCN would supplement the state government's effort to service the difference. " Our requirement is 60 mega watts but we are confident that PHCN would supplement that", he said.
Gada further described the move to concretise the establishment of the power project as a positive development to the state while expressing hope that the company handling the contract would live up to expectation by executing a qualitative job according to specification within the earliest possible time as contained in the contract terms.
The Managing Director of the company, Mr. Ford Graham assured the state government of quality and timely completion of the power project. He also observed that similar problems of inadequate power supply were being faced by many states across the country, adding, "we are confident that our company will effectively handle the project with expertise within the time frame".

This is a huge mistake. Dont trust Vulcan Capital. They will take your money then bankrupt the corporation and create a new one. They do not know how to build power plants to run...
Sokoto Government,
Before you proceed with Vulcan Capital do some reference checks on the employees who are providing services for them. On Vulcan Capitals last contract they convinced the parole board to let one of their employees out of jail to complete a contract. Since then the employee was busted for trafficing cocaine and now is in jail. Vulcan Capital is known for hiring unprofessional or under educated employees. Another example is when they had a contract for a power plant project in Iraq. Their project manager that was hired, took over a year… [Read Full Text]
To whom it may concern, please be advised that Ford Graham and Kevin Davis are involved in a lawsuit for non-performance of a similar contract in the United States. The BGT Group, Inc. provided Vulcan Capital with over $6 Million of money and equipment to build three components of a power plant. The contract was never completed by Vulcan, The BGT Group, Inc. was forced to file a lawsuit, and contact the FBI to pursue a criminal investigation. Ultimately, The BGT Group, Inc. manufactured the plants on their own; however, they are still involved in the lawsuit against… [Read Full Text]
