Enugu — The Enugu North local government area of Enugu State, in collaboration with First Bank of Nigeria and the Central Bank of Nigeria, has concluded plans to float a N20 Million Micro Credit Scheme for farmers in the state.

Speaking with leadership Business in Enugu yesterday, chairman of the council, Dr Herbert Orji, disclosed that the memorandum of understanding for the proposed project would be signed on Wednesday.

According to him, Enugu North local government will provide half of the N20 million while First Bank of Nigeria Plc is expected to provide the remaining

The LG boss stated further that "beneficiaries of the scheme are expected to go into livestock framing, poultry farming, fishery, and crop production, among others"

Dr Orji further state that the increasing rate of unemployment among citizens of the state informed the decision of his administration to initiate the scheme.

He disclosed that Enugu North, under his administration, had "constructed a fish pond with 30,000 fishes, as well as a poultry farm with about 2,500 birds currently laying eggs"

Dr Orji attributed the success so far recorded by his administration to the unrelenting support it received from Governor Sullivan Chime whom he described as God's chosen one, assuring that his administration was doing everything within its reach to contribute to the success of the four- point agenda of the state governor.

On the ongoing investigations into the activities of local governments in the country by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the LG boss expressed satisfaction with the new face of EFCC, adding that the anti- graft agency " now believes in the rule of law."

"I appreciate the work that EFCC is doing. We all know that the fear of EFCC is the beginning of wisdom. EFCC now believes in the rule of law. EFCC investigated some council chairmen, including myself," he said.
