Abuja — President, Nigerian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons (NAOMS), Dr. (Mrs) Gbenga Ogunlewe, has stressed the need for collaborative effort to improve service delivery to patients.
She laid the emphasis at the opening ceremony of the 3rd joint Scientifc Conference of the African Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons yesterday in Abuja.
Ogunlewe said collaborative efforts will help put smiles on peoples faces and assist the goverment achieve its goals of health for all Nigerians. She maintained that the joint conference promises to be interesting, educative and a milestone in the practice of oral/maxillofacial surgery in Nigeria and Africa.
According to her, "This conference is geared towards improving professional skills, generating useful ideas for the benefits of the specially society and promote quality in our health care system.
She further disclosed that as oral and maxillofacial surgeons who are dental specialists, they treated conditions, defects, injuries, and esthetic aspects of the mouth, teeth, jaws and face. She added that their scope was extensive, including but not necessarily confined to maxillofacial trauma care, cancers of the head and neck, diseases of salivary glands, cleft lip and palate, conditions of the oral mucosa such as mouth ulcers and dento-alveolar infection.
"We want to create awareness to the general populace on how and where they can be cured."
