Katsina — Katsina State has recorded 78 fresh cases of the dreaded poliomyelitis, the chairman of the State Mobilisation Committee Against Polio, Alhaji Nasiru Shargalle has disclosed.
Alhaji Shargalle, who made the disclosure at a meeting with the 34 local councils in the state, noted that the deadly virus was found in 29 of the local councils.
The chairman, who is also the special adviser to the state governor on Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, added that Jibia local council was the worst hit area with 9 recorded cases of polio.
He, therefore tasked local councils to move quickly to ensure that people in their domain especially children were saved from the child killer disease.
Alhaji Shargalle similarly re-iterated the state government's commitment to improving the welfare of its people through the provision of affordable and accessible health care facilities.
Also speaking, the executive chairman of the State Primary Health Care Agency, Dr. Ahmad Muhammad Qabasiyyu emphasised the need to join hands in the eradication of all the child killer diseases.
Dr. Qabasiyyu said the state government, through its agency, was making concerted efforts aimed at tackling health care needs at the grassroots level.
