The United States embassy will organise a two-day workshop on aviation security and safety in Nigeria in collaboration with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), The Boeing Corporation, and other stakeholders on "Aviation Security and Safety in Nigeria."
The event, which is in collaboration with the Nigeria civil aviation authority NCAA, and the Boeing corporation, is a programme of technical assistance and information exchange to support the NCAA's ongoing work to obtain a U.S. Federal Aviation Administration Category 1 rating.
A Category 1 rating would permit air carriers from the US and Nigeria to continue their reciprocal service in its usual manner.
Ambassador Robin Renei Sanders would open the event while some Nigerian experts would deliver papers. They include transport minister, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, the Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Dr. Harold Demuren, and the Regional Director for Africa for Boeing Chamsou D'Andjorin.
U.S.government technical experts from the Federal Aviation Administration, Department of Defense, Department of Transportation, and the National Transportation Safety Board, will deliver papers on attaining Category 1 status, safety and security, search and rescue, airfield management and infrastructure building for the Nigerian aviation sector.
About 200 aviation experts from Nigeria are expected to participate in the November 17-18 workshop in Abuja.
