Nigeria: Global Entrepreneurship Harps On Unemployment And Poverty

Abuja — Global Entrepreneurship, a Multinational non- governmental organisation, has reiterated on the need to generate new ideas and develop entrepreneurship solutions to address challenges of unemployment and poverty which have become serious issues in Nigeria.

This was highlighted in a press statement signed by Arokoyo Victor, the programme manager, of the organisation.

According to the statement, the first ever international celebration of enterprising behaviour of Global Entrepreneurship Week is scheduled to take place in 75 countries around the world, from November 17-23, 2008.

In Nigeria, the week will be declared open by the minister of Youth and Social Development, Senator Olasunkanmi Akinlabi, on November 17, 2008. The minister of Commerce and Industry, Aliyu Idi Hong, will give a key note address, while the managing director of Bank of Industry is expected to be one of the discussants during the lecture /training.

The programme, which will involve training of selected youths from different states of the federation, will be followed by exhibition by entrepreneurs, to be coordinated by SMEDAN.

The week will, however, be rounded off with an award/dinner to distinguished entrepreneurs in Nigeria, and the crowning of the first ever Miss Entrepreneur Nigeria 2008.
