Nigeria: Yuletide - Imo Govt Reads Riot Act to Petroleum Marketers

Owerri — Imo State government has sounded it loud and clear to petroleum marketers operating in the state to conduct themselves in the spirit of New Face of Imo, by not hoarding petroleum products or indulge in the sales of adulterated products during the yuletide.

Speaking during a one-day workshop for petroleum marketers and other stakeholders, held in Concorde Hotel, Owerri with the theme: Petroleum Matters in the New Face of Imo, the commissioner for Petroleum and Environment , Dr Aloysius Aguwa, who represented Gov. Ikedi Ohakim, maintained that government would not hesitate to invoke the law against defaulters.

He advised users and distributors of petroleum products to exhibit utmost care, considering the high inflammability of the products and further desist from illegal storage of such products.

The commissioner explained that New Face of Imo was about positive attitudinal change which is aimed at cultivating into people, the right approach to doing business that would yield a peaceful , beautiful , attractive and healthy environment for the sustenance of business and attract investors.

In her remarks, the wife of the governor, Barr. Chioma Ohakim, urged petroleum marketers to support the governor, whom she said had put appropriate measures in motion to curb fuel scarcity and inflation of petroleum products, stating that such would ensure safety of lives and property as well as access to petroleum products at affordable prices.

In his address, the executive assistant to the governor on Petroleum, Engr. Emma Ahamefule, whose office organised the seminar, noted that it was imperative to orientate petroleum marketers in the state, so as to imbibe the culture of excellence in service as embodied in the New Face of Imo, and further expose them to new possibilities derivable from positive attitudes, such as enhanced services delivery and job creation .

According to him, the seminar would prepare operators for a hitchfree product delivery and marketing during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
