Federal Government on Monday opened the national workshop for the creation of a youth employment action plan for Nigeria just as the Youth Development Minister, Akinlabi Olasunkanmi, advocated the establishment of school vocational clubs in primary and secondary schools.
Opening the workshop in Abuja, Olasunkanmi told the 36 state commissioners of youth, development partners and experts in youth employment matters that the Federal Government decided to develop a comprehensive youth job plan because of the widening youth unemployment in the country.
"Today marks the beginning of the design of a multi-sectoral job creation plan as recommended by the United Nations as far back as year 2011.
"This drive became necessary because youth job crises can only be resolved by strategies that take into account the demand and supply side of the labour market," the minister said.
According to him, the youth job plan has proved to be successful in Singapore, Malaysia, Ghana, Indonesia, India, Kenya and Tanzania, stressing that "the plan when concluded will create jobs in various sectors for our youth".
