The series of accidents recorded on the Abuja-Lokoja expressway has become a serious source of concern to many of the residents along the highway.
Particularly concerned are residents of Yangoji village in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). In separate interviews with our reporter following the recent road crash involving a Toyota Hiace bus and Peugeot JS bus earlier in the week, inhabitants called on the authorities concerned to do something urgently.
A resident, Rachael Umanko said: "The state of this road is terrible and has been leading to constant accidents from here all the way to the airport section at Abuja." According to another resident, Alhaji Mohammed Kure, he stated: "On a typical day, at least two vehicles crash at this area only, while we would hear of others in neighbouring towns. The government should wake up and fix the road."
On his part, a farmer who gave his name simply as Papa Emma, urged the Federal Road Safety Commission and VIO to patrol the road properly so as to help minimise the carnage on the road.
"Apart from the terrible condition of the road, over-speeding and careless driving are also responsible for the constant accidents," he said.
"The Road Safety and VIO people should patrol here so as to deal with careless drivers. Too many lives and limbs have been lost here."
