Abuja — President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua has assured international oil companies operating in Nigeria that their interests would be taken into consideration in the on-going reform of the oil sector.

Yar'Adua was speaking with Mr. Rich Kruger, President of Exxon Mobil, who led an eight-man delegation to State House, yesterday.

He assured them that as the reform commences in the sector, the Federal Government would take into account the interests of the international oil companies.

"The reforms, which is meant to restructure our national economy, will be a win-win situation for Nigeria and the oil companies". He added.

President Yar'Adua, who reminded the oil companies of the long-standing relationship the government had with them, assured them that, "we will ensure mutual consultation, so that we can transform our national oil company without upsetting the relationship we have with our partners".

Earlier, Kruger had briefed the president about current activities of Exxon Mobil in Nigeria, the company's plans for more investments in the oil sector and areas of mutual interest.

The President of my country nigeria has assured international oil companies operating in our country their interest, does our president know that a community in Abia State of Nigeria, to be precise the Ohuru Autonomous Community which has being a long standing oil discovered community since 1958 is suffering in the hands of Shell Pet. Dev. Co. Ltd(SPDC)in Nigeria, Shell has in this community Ohuru Wells 1,2,3 and 4. Still there is no impact of Shell in that community. The people of this community is right now suffering as a result of Shells' oil exploration and exploitations which is causing a lot of health hazards. The one that readily comes to mind is Shell's utter exposure of their facilities on the land of this community without fencing off their facilities from the populace thereby endangering the lives of the people of Ohuru Autonomous Community, in Abia State.Besides some of Shell's abandoned oil wells emit and ooze out obnoxious/gaseous and other harmful chemicals and constitute unbearable health hazards to the people of Ohuru Community, in Abia State of NIgeria. This community has written several letters to Shell, their office in Port Harcourt begging that there should be a meeting between Shell and this community without any response from Shell.Am begging the Preisdent of Nigeria as a Youth of the Niger Delta to come to the aid of this community, before things goes out of hand between Shell and the Youths of this Community. Thanks
