Kano — The National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) , North -West Zone, Dr. Danladi Sankara, has declared that President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua has succeeded in enthroning due process and the rule of law which are the virtues needed to lay a solid foundation for sustainable progress and development of the nation.

Fielding questions from newsmen during an interactive session in Kano, Dr. Sankara contended that the success was a great achievement, especially as strict adherence to the rule of law and due process had helped to remove the manifest distortions and obstacles that in the past contributed to stunting the economic development of the country.

He noted that the catalogue of problems bedeviling Nigeria had been accumulating over the years through previous administrations, pointing out that, for the first time in the nation's political history the Yar'Adua administration had taken the "bull by the horn" by getting to the root of the problems .

The national vice chairman stated that what President Yar'Adua needed most from all Nigerians is perseverance , prayers and goodwill to succeed in reshaping the nation to attain the desired true greatness.

He emphasised that Yar'Adua's determination indicates that he did not intend to enrich himself but to serve the nation to the best of his ability with all sense of honesty.

He said " President Yar'Adua has lived up to his promises that he is only desirous to serve the people of Nigeria, and that he has no intention to enrich himself or encourage anyone to corruptly enrich himself or herself.

"As you can see, Mr. President has remained transparently honest in the discharge of his constitutional duties", Sankara mentioned.

The PDP leader, however, expressed dismay at the low- level of public awareness on the Seven-point agenda of the president.

He, therefore, made a strong case for governments at all levels to embark on strident campaigns to educate the people, particularly at the grassroots on the importance, focus and the benefits of the agenda, explaining that the Seven-point Agenda is the programme of the Federal Government packaged as a pro-active response to the social and economic problems that have undermined the development of the nation.

Dr. Sankara argued that the successful implementation of the agenda alongside Vision 2020 is the collective responsibility of all tiers of governments notwithstanding whether a particular State or Local Government is under the control of the ruling PDP or not.

He said " I am particularly disappointed at the noticeable low-level of public awareness on the Seven-point agenda.

Let me make it clear that the agenda and Vision 2020 are the road map and cardinal objectives of the Nigerian nation in our concerted efforts to lay a solid foundation for the economic and social progress of the nation. " It is the responsibility of every government at all levels to set up the machinery for the full implementation of the twin national economic agenda of the federal government.

This is because the Seven-point agenda in particular, is aimed at addressing such critical day-to-day issues that have direct bearing on the survival of the nation and the people such as power and energy, food, security, wealth creation, transportation, land tenure changes and home ownership, national security and intelligence, education and the conclusive resolution of the Niger Delta crisis", he emphasised.

The PDP chieftain also made a strong representation to all governors, local government chairmen and political leaders in all the 36 and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Abuja to sponsor massive public enlightenment campaign at grassroots level to educate the people on the Seven-point agenda of President Yar'Adua .

"The campaign to educate the people on the Seven Point Agenda should be all encompassing, especially on the need to support the effort.

All stakeholders, state governors and local government chairmen should mobilise for sustained enlightened campaign on radio, television, newspapers and other traditional means of reaching people at the grassroots", Dr. Sankara revealed.
