Ghana: NPP 50 Percent+1, NDC 50 Percent+1 - All We Are Saying is Give Peace a Chance!

18 November 2008

If some of the pre-election opinion polls that have come out so far are anything to go by, then both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would win next two weeks' elections "one touch"! It is a statistical absurdity because only one party can go beyond the 50% and get the additional one vote to carry the day.

In an analysis in today's ADM, the Danquah Institute takes up the issue and casts serious doubt on the integrity of the NDC's figures. No doubt the NDC would also put across what the party regards as an appropriate riposte to that one sooner or later.

As they mull and crunch over their figures and margins of error, "All we are saying is give Peace a Chance".

That is not too much to ask for. From their own figures, they should be able to see that no party has a 100% of the electorate, which means nothing can justify any actions they would take that would endanger the entire country simply because they feel the elections would be or have been rigged.

As the opinion polls (spurious or genuine) show, Ghana does not belong to any one political party to give it the right to turn "resistance" into conflict.

The Electoral Commission has assured us that the systems that have been put in place would not permit any rigging. Let us have confidence in that and turn December 7 into a triumph of Ghanaian democracy and true African renaissance. God bless our homeland Ghana...
