Freetown — Makeni branch of Rokel Commercial Bank (RCB) Friday donated ten helmets to commercial motorcycle 'okada' riders in the township.

Branch manager, Millicent Macfoy, said the donation ceremony was made possible by the bank's managing director Henry Akintola Macauley.

"The aim of the donation is to strengthen the relationship between the okada riders and the bank," she said adding that the bank has more plans for the bike riders.

"Our bank is very concerned about Makeni people. Rokel commercial bank is not only here for business but also to bring developmental projects that can help some of the youths," she said and admonished the riders to open accounts with the bank.

Acting chairman of the bike riders Mohamed Kanu said the donation was good and timely as he commended the bank.

He said the message about what the bank did for them in the area of safety would be delivered to other colleagues. He called on beneficiaries to take good care of the helmets, the first donation to be made by RCB.

Henry Macauley said the donation was to help the bike riders protect their heads against injury in the event there was an accident while riding.
