Tunisia: Handball Team Actively Prepares for 2009 World Championship in Croatia

Tunis — The Tunisian national handball team which has recently won the Qatar International Handball Tournament which was held from October 30 to November 2, in Doha, is actively preparing for the 2009 World Championship scheduled to take place from January 16 to February 1, 2009, in Croatia.

The preparation program set up by Tunisia's new coach, Zoran Zivcovic, includes training sessions in Ain Draham, north of the country, as well as the participation in two tournaments respectively in France and in Sweden. The seven- man team will also play friendly games against France on November 27 and 30 and Kuwait on January 5, 2009.

Tunisia which is part of Group C of the 2009 World Championship, is paired alongside such mighty handball nations as Poland, Germany, Macedonia, Russia and Algeria. Needless to say, that it will face a very strong competition to say the least.

The preliminary games of the Handball World Championship will take place in the Croatian cities of Osjek, Split, Varazdin and Porec. The matches of the main round are scheduled in Zagreb and Zadar, placement matches will be played in Zagreb, semi finals in Zagreb and Split and the finals will take place in Zagreb.

In the 2005 Handball World Championship which took place in Tunis, the Tunisian team finished fourth after Spain (World Champions), Croatia, and France. Germany won the 2007 World Championship.
