Kaduna — As part of efforts to boost sports and youth development in Nigeria, First Bank Plc intends to sign on with Kaduna State Government as sponsors of the forthcoming National Sports Festival sche-duled for February next year.
The banks noted that its in-tention to further extend its sports partnership into the Na-tional Sports Festival which hosts over 10,000 Nigerian youths every two years is part of its social responsibility to the host com-munity and support for commu-nity development adding that it sees the festival beyond a sporting event but also a gathering of leaders of tomorrow who will be competing for honour and glory for their respective states in the 10 days fiesta.
First Bank Business Develop-ment Manager Kaduna, Alhaji Gimba Ibrahim who disclosed this to Trustsports in an exclusive chat in Kaduna yesterday stres-sed that despite being involved in the sponsorship of several sporting, economic and cultural events including Africa's most prestigious polo trophy, the Georgian Cup played at the Ka-duna International Polo Tourna-ment, the bank would continue to contribute its quota to the de-velopment of sports and other facets of the country.
He said, "The National Sports Festival has been postponed till next year we are currently in discussion with the Kaduna Sta-te Government on how we can sign on as sponsors of the festival. We are going to be one of the sponsors and we look forward to presenting our che-que to the state government very soon. We are also involved in other sponsorship activities. We have a football club, a female basketball team and we also supported Nigerian team to the Beijing Paralympics."
According to Ibrahim, First Bank's support and sponsor-ship for polo will continue as the partnership is mutually be-neficial. "Polo is the oldest sports in which we are involved. We have been sponsoring polo for several decades and we are going to continue the relation-ship for as long as we can."
