Akure — Authorities of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) at the weekend lamented the non-constitution of the governing council of the institution by the Federal Government, saying the development was slowing down many actions that the school ought to have taken.

Chairman of FUTA Ceremonial Committee for the Year 2008 Convocation Ceremony, Professor Biyi Daramola, expressed the concern at a news briefing to mark the commencement of the graduation activities.

According to the professor, many approvals issuing from the council are sent to the Minister of Education which always lead to delay considering the number of federal universities that the minister had to attend to.

He said due to the absence of the council, the university could not appoint new professors even though there are qualified people just as the university could not give honourary degree awards this year.
