Osogbo — Governor of Osun state, General Olagunsoye Oyinlola (rtd) has charged traditional rulers in the state to always mobilise their subjects for the overall good of their various communities.
Expressing regret over the burnt and consequent re-constructed palace of the Akire of Ikire in Irewole Local Government of the State, Oba Olatunde Falabi, the governor noted that over the past few months the monarch endured the hardships occasioned by the damage done to his official residence.
He indicated his administration's commitment to the welfare of traditional institutions in the state, and said his government has cultivated high regard to royal fathers in the state.
According to him, "as I have always said, our traditional rulers must be accorded their rightful place in the scheme of things for proper development to occur at the grassroots".
Oyinlola stressed that government will continue to utilise royal fathers for the mobilisation of their subjects for the good of their communities.
His words: "Obas are part and parcel of government, especially in the implementation of policies and programmes required for the sustainable growth and development of the society".
He maintained that "Ikire community should put all the past behind them and unite for the progress of the town, saying that no matter how high their aspirations may be, they may not be able to see these to fruition unless all decide to join forces to chart ways for development".
While delivering his address, the council chairman Hon. Lere Oyewumi recalled that the palace was burnt down on October 22, 2007 alongside over 20 vehicles by aggrieved people in the town due to falsehood reports.
Oyewumi noted that the new monarch palace was constructed with a sum of N30million from the push of the local government; and commended the intervention of Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade for his fatherly role, and the state government for her support.
