Botswana: Moatlhodi Apologises and Appeals to BDP

18 November 2008

The embattled Tonota South MP, Pono Moatlhodi, who was last week recalled as the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BCP) parliamentary candidate in the 2009 general elections has apologised and appealed the decision to shut him out of the polls.

BDP secretary general, Jacob Nkate told Mmegi yesterday that the party has received Moatlhodi's apology letter in which he appeals the decision to deny him the party ticket.

Nkate said the BDP Central Committee will today meet to preside an Moatlhodi's appeal and apology.

Ever since the recall was made, the public has generally supported the voluble MP. Meanwhile, Moatlhodi has denied that the has apologised to the party and appealed the decision to recall him.

"I have never written any apology," he told Mmegi . Last week the BDP Central Committee recalled Moatlhodi for making irresponsible and disparaging remarks in Parliament. He was victimised for saying that the current government and the party is militarising the civil service.
