Abuja — Two members of a five-man robbery gang were yesterday gunned down, by the police at about 2pm in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, while attempting to rob members of the public in the Central Area of the city. Three other members of the gan escaped with bullet wounds.LEADERSHIP gathered that an eagle-eyed member of the public, suspecting the menacing movement of the hoodlums, had alerted the police who promptly responded, and on sighting the police the "bad boys" opened fire.
Commenting on the incident, the FCD Poilce Command Public Relations Officer, Mr. Jimoh Moshood, explained that the dare- devil robbers had come in two cars, a Toyota Camry and a Honda Accord, to the CD Plaza around the Central Area, where several banks are located.
According to him, when the robbers were trying to snatch money from customers coming out of the banks they were intercepted by the police, resulting in an exchange of gunfire.
In the process two of the robbers in the Toyota Camry were killed on the spot while three others escaped in the Honda Accord with serious bullet wounds.
An eyewitness, Mr. Ike chukwu, told our correspondent that one of the dead robbers, had on 12th November, 2008, robbed him of the sum of N5million at the Photo Tech while his own brother was shot in the leg.
